Spoiled And Loving It

What a difference a day makes! I am seeing the world differently today, my friends! Through a different lens, anyhow...A few days ago, my hubby asked me what I would want if I could have something. I knew he was fishing to buy me a gift. Now, that's putting me on the spot - I'm pretty content with what I have and questions like that make me uncomfortable, and he knows it! I told him I wanted those Sketcher Shape Up shoes. He rolled his eyes and told me that he said I could get those a while back and he wondered why I hadn't gotten them yet. (They're not cheap! Have you priced them? I'm waiting for a coupon at Herberger's. I missed the sale last Saturday - of course, I saw the Saturday coupons on SUNDAY! Arghhh!) So, I sat there and thought, while he looked at me, perplexed. I know there's probably more than a few of you who are reading this who are wondering how I could possibly not have a list of things, but I am really a pretty spoiled wife.

Then, it hit me! When I was doing my Clean Mama Zone Cleaning a few weeks ago and my bedroom was my zone, I came across a coffee can full of coins. I mean FULL. I changed that in at the bank - it was a good amount of money. I added that to some money I had gotten at a speaking engagement. I have a few speaking engagements lined up around the corner (Spring time is my busy time for speaking - Mother-Daughter banquets abound!). I was hoping to scrape up enough to purchase a DSLR camera. I've always had a point-and-shoot camera and I know NOTHING about professional photography, but I love looking at people's photos, and I love beauty and nature and people and still life. Then, I stumbled on Maura's (Fostering Awareness) and Heather's (Traveling Down the Tracks with D & H) sites. I just loved both their photos. Come to find out they use the same camera - a Canon Rebel.

So, yesterday, after dinner, my very generous hubby took me to Best Buy and bought me a Canon Rebel. It's not the same model...it doesn't have the movie option...I never use that on my point-and-shoot...it's the Canon Rebel XSi. He bought me the case, extra battery, tripod, an image stabilizer EFS-55mm lens and flash. I'm just blown away! I just got it at 8pm last night, so I know next to nothing about it. But, here are a few photos I took just goofing off last night. (I could barely sleep, but Mike told me that it was no fair if I left our bed last night to play with the camera...lol)

And, perhaps, the most important accessory to go with the camera:

I'm just really excited. I've wanted a camera like this since I can remember. When we were paying for all this at the store, I was really excited, and could hardly stand still. I threw my arms around Mike and gave him a smooch and said "Thanks, Honey." He winked at me and said (loud enough for the clerk to hear) "Just don't tell my wife." The clerk's eyes got really big and he didn't know what to think! My husband is a character! But, I'm glad he's MY character!

Yay! I'm so happy for you! That is great! I don't use my movie feature, by the way, so getting the camera without it was probably a good choice. :-)
Great pictures!
I love the Willow Tree figurine. :)
Have fun practicing and I am looking forward to what you will shoot!
Oh, I should probably get that book out of the library, I am taking a class Thurs. night but some good reading would be good.
Have fun!

That's so great! We actually purchased a DSLR (a Canon 50D) as our Christmas present for each other. I have yet to truly learn how to use it! It's one of those things on my "to do" list!!

Oh boy oh boy oh boy what a great present! Hope you're having fun with it! :)

Oooheeee. YAY, for big expensive yummy cameras!
I had the XT and sold it last year. (dumb dumb dumb) and am counting on probably getting a new one this spring (that was the whole point of selling it!).
Anyway, ilovephotography.com has a "Just starting out" section that is INVALUABLE for information. I learned SO much from that website (and my dad - he's a pro photog) but really, if you want to learn quickly, check it out! (You can always give me a shout if there is something specific... I can try to help!)
