J & J Party

Q: What do you get when you cross a group of moms who have been cooped up with their kids and the daily grind of their responsibilities since the holidays with food, a good chick flick and their besties?
A: A Julie and Julia Party!

Well, Bloggy Buddies -if you've been reading my blog for any amount of time, I've invited you into my home to look at my stuff, my dog, my family. I've told you about my SAMmy's ministry and I've told you about my SAMmy's mom's group in my hometown of Hudson who have become my close group of friends...now let me introduce you to them! (They are the women who are as close as sisters, who read my blog but never comment...what is up with that, SAMmy's sisters???) Anyhow...here they are - not all of them, but a few of my very close girlfriends... (I'm the one in black in the front between the girl in the green and the girl in red.)
We had SO MUCH fun at our Julie and Julia party last night!!!! This was an inexpensive time to get together and enjoy each other's company...mission accomplished! Megan (the other one in black in front, on the end) got the movie for Christmas from her dad - and she didn't even watch it yet - so she could save the experience for last night...what a friend!

Melissa hosted...and wore her pearls in honor of Julia Childs. I take the most flattering pictures when I hold the camera right in front of me, don't you think? Like a carnival fun mirror. Oh, well...so much for vanity! They say if you appear in the movies it adds 10 or 20 pounds...taking photos like THIS adds more...scary.

Everyone had to bring an ingredient for our salad bar. I brought the greens. We had quite an array! Yummy! Michelle gets her salad dressing from Olive Garden...she buys it right there! I had no idea...that was the tip of the night...

Everyone had to bring 1 cup of diced veggies for the "Stone Soup" (turkey soup base) that Michelle is stirring. We really came up with a great concoction...you'd think that people would be bringing duplicate things, but NOBODY did - out of 13 or 14 of us! The soup was THE BEST - it was packed with wild rice, asparagus, cauliflower, carrots, celery, leeks - you name it, it was in there. Very flavorful!
Here, Heather is pulling her appetizer out of the oven...our little pregnant Heather...

It was comfy watching the movie. Melissa brought out beanbags for some of us. I pulled up a pillow and pulled on an afgan and snuggled up to watch the show!

Oh - and, of course there were snacks and gabbing...we're GIRLS...we had cheesecake and chocolates and popcorn and drinks. We even had doorprizes because we get carried away.
It's so fun to remember that we can do inexpensive, fun parties like this, where everybody brings something and it's not any great expense on one person. This is one way we can "go out," and not have to spend the money to "go out!" It's ridiculous how much a dinner and movie, dessert and drinks can cost if you do that with your girlfriends! Everyone seemed to have such a great time, because it's really all about the experience and the people you do it with...and, we had some really great people to do it with last night!
I hope you all have good friends like this. If not, and you live near me, stop by our SAMmy's group on Wednesday mornings at Faith Community - we'd love to have you join us! :)

That looks like a lot of fun! Good idea about everyone bringing something. That soup sounds really good, too! Just Turkey broth and a bunch of veggies??
I didn't know you could buy dressing at Olive Garden! Cool tip. :-)

Hey,
I have a Canon Rebel T1i. I would say if you are starting out and want a camera to take better pictures, any Canon Rebel would do. Also, while reading MckMama photography live chat comments- I saw a lot of photographers (and MckMama) raved about a 50mm prime lens- it's affordable, too, and it is great for indoor shots where there is low lighting. I am currently using Lightroom Beta 3 but that is only free until April. That is when the full version comes out and I will have to delete it. I also have Picasa which is Google's free editing program- that is easy to use.

Aw, how adorable!!! Looks like a blast.
Our grouo has been trying to get together FOR EVER. Maybe I should bite the bullet and invite them over to my house. I've lived here for 6 years and have had 4 parties. 2 birthday parties (then we started doing them at my parents after the girls turned 3 and 1), one party for the Superbowl, years ago, one party for Todd's going away (this was a hit! TONS of people here which was awesome, except our fridge doesn't make ice like it's supposed to and I never bought any so my neighbor went back to his house and emptied out HIS ice. HA.
Hmmm....never seen this movie either! Might have to steal the idea :)

Shelly - you should DO IT! It was so much fun!!! Your SAMmy's group might be a little large (ours isn't 80 women or whatever you guys have in Eau Claire by now...), but at least your SAMmy's small group...
