Aaron just earned his Black Candidate Belt in Karate...which means he is technically a black belt - just waiting for black belt graduation day in the Twin Cities - May 22nd. His last criteria he had to fulfill was this double attacker move he had to choreograph. Isn't it awesome? (See Video Below)
He's in the adult group because of his size and his teenie-bopper status - and he's kickin' butt. Quite a change from the children's group he's been in in the past. This makes us really proud, because the curriculum is much more difficult, and he's had to step it up. He goes to practices at least three times a week - and has been for years. YEARS. Can I confess something? I don't take him to his sparring classes on Thursdays because it Freaks. Me. Out. They have on all that sparring gear - but they are wailing on each other - even with all that gear, he's had other guys - usually teens - break his skin open...on his head, neck, ugh! His instructor knows I bring a book when I have to bring him. I do not have a poker face, and when I do chance a look at the wrong time, the instructor will tell me "Pennie - look away!" because I'm sure I look like I'm going to cry or run in the sparring area and whisk my baby away. Not a cool mama. But I am a proud mama. I go to the other classes. :)
Aaron received his black candidate belt at the last graduation...soon to be black belt in May, where he gets to perform this move for many more people along with his two "victims".
Congrats, Aaron- big accomplishment! We are so proud of you!

Aaron, you are AWESOME, and I am proud to be your Auntie!
Love,
Auntie Lori
P.S. Wish I could be there for your graduation. I've always been interested in martial arts, and I admire those who dedicate themselves to the development of such skills. I think those skills carry over into other areas of life requiring focus, patience and discipline.
Okay how awesome is your son! Very cool!
Way to go Aaron!!! Pennie, you should be proud...Aaron is totally awesome :o)
Wow, that is very exciting about Aaron getting his Black Candidate Belt!
I would be nervous too someday if Brad did karate and had to do that sparring thing. :)
Yes, the filters I used to take those pictures go on the end of the lens.
You should have one (at least a UV one) on your lenses. If you don't have one, buy one! :) It protects your lens. It is easier to replace a $10 or $20 filter that got scratched as opposed to an expensive lens. :)
