Can You Help?

I have several eco-friendly totes to take to the grocery store. They are neatly stored in my hall closet. When I stop at the grocery store, I reach into the back seat and say to myself "Drat! I forgot to grab those eco-friendly totes! I'll have to use plastic again!"
I know...I'm horrible!
And I'm ruining the planet.
Does it matter that I'm not doing it intentionally?
Actually, I've used them before - at least ONCE. I've carried my groceries from car to house - and this is where the problem occurs - the totes then remain in the house. They never make it back out to the car. It seems to be too much trouble. (I don't know why that is - I do plenty of things that are MUCH MORE TROUBLE than carting empty tote bags to the car. Hmmmm...)
Anyhow...my question is...(to the three other people in the world who still use plastic bags from the grocery store)
...how do you store your plastic grocery bags? Because I DO recycle them. My kids use them for lunch bags, and I use them for disposable tote bags all the time. But, they have taken over my hall closet.
I had a cloth tote bag of them in the closet, hung on a hanger. I stuffed it full of these plastic bags. But, my kids would take one out and several would come pouffing out (my word - feel free to use it anytime) along with it, and my teenagers couldn't bother themselves to pick the stray bags up off the floor of the closet. Ugh!
So...how do YOU store your plastic grocery bags, if you use them?
And to those who don't...you really are my heroes. Some day I will grow up and be just like you.

I put the plastic bags in a big jar that sits next to my microwave. Just jam them in there. We use them for so much! Cleaning out the kennels, Throwing together a quick lunch for my husband when he leaves for work in the morning, just a quick bag. Oh! For peeling vegetables into, for sticking wet shoes into bookbags, etc.
I'm one that has the cooling bags from Sams and then always forgets to grab one before leaving the house... Now I've got about 3 of those.

I very rarely anymore use plastic bags...it took me months to get into the habit of taking my re-usable bags with me everywhere! I bought about 20 of them! I always keep a few in the car in the trunk. Soon as I empty the bags I put them back in the car or in the spot I remember them which is in the pantry!

For the plastic bags I have used them as totes like you, or just put them in the recycle bin. I used to collect them in a bin under the sink and boy did that get out of control! I have also used them as garbage bags for the little bathroom garbage cans...which is bad I know but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

I hate when I forget my reusable bags! I don't like to use the plastic ones either. The frovery store I go to charges 5 cents per plastic bag! That gets me motivated to use my reusable totes!

I store my plastic bags in a cloth tote that looks like a cow! It's very cute, you stuff the bags up her butt!

I'm terrible. I want to use the totes, but I don't want to buy them. We use the plastic bags for everything -- but when we have sooo many bags that they are overflowing the pantry, we take them to the store where they have a recycling box JUST for the plastic bags!

Tsk, tsk.

Just kidding!

I use my plastic bags to line small under the sink garbage cans (in my bathrooms) and as poopy bags when walking the dogs - and, Ooh - I hang one from my ashtray in the Sub-mobile to collect all the random trash that seems to appear there.

Oh, and when I have too many plastic bags ... I know its time for a thrift sale ... and then I put EVERYONE's purchase in a bag ... even though they insist they don't need one. (Yes, they do.)

Hope this helps! :-)
