Happy Groundhog Day!

Have you seen this movie, "Groundhog Day"? It's with Bill Murray - an oldie, but a goodie (both Bill Murray and the movie)! It was just on one of the cable stations recently, and my kids watched it with me for the first time. They thought it was pretty clever. Bill Murray is a t.v. news announcer who is reporting on Punxsutawny Phil (the official Groundhog of Groundhog's Day) on February 2. The day begins bad and goes downhill from there. He wakes up the next morning, and he is the only one to notice that it is THE SAME DAY as yesterday - February 2nd! He relives the day over and over, trying to get it right. Very funny!

If I could relive one day over and over again, what would it be? It wouldn't be a bad day, I tell you that! I think one day I'd like to live over would be one when I was a child (that would be BEFORE responsibilities...now I could appreciate that). I remember this perfect day when we were on our annual vacation to "King's Cozy Resort." Before you get a vision of the modern resort in your head, think very primitive cabins on a shoreline - indoor plumbing, but nothing fancy. My family would rent one, my grandparents another, my two uncles and their families another and some friends of the family rented another. That would fill up all the cabins. It was great! This particular day involved barefoot play in the grass, swimming in the lake, boating, a fish fry, going to the dump to see the bear roaming with a BUNCH of kids of all ages packed into the back of a pickup truck, catching butterflies, and then at night we would all gather around a bonfire and my Uncle Jack (who died in a motorcycle accident when I was in 1st grade) would play his guitar (modern songs for the day) and we would all sing until late at night. My mom would bring out popcorn and snacks (she still sees "feeding the masses" as her mission in life) and lightning bugs would be zipping around. It was magical. A slice of time that was surreal and precious. The perfect day. Actually, it was two weeks every year. My Uncle Jack faded from the picture a year later, but other than that the picture continued much the same for years after.

What day would you live over and over, if you could? (Of course, eventually, I'd want to skip forward in time, because my family now is beautiful and we have plenty of those magical times ourselves. I hope my children feel that way about some of the things we do. And, in a way, I do get to relive that day over and over in my heart and in my scrapbooks. A reason to take LOTS of pictures for my own children's scrapbooks! My mom was so good at that! Thanks, Mom!)

So, will Punxsutawny Phil the Groundhog see his shadow? I guess he's only right 39% of the time, anyhow! But, if the view from my front door is any indication, I predict he WILL see his shadow and be VERY, VERY frightened! (Because it's snowing right now!)

Happy Groundhog's Day!
May your day be filled with moments you'd want to relive over and over again! :)

I don't know why but I like that movie! It's funny how upset people get about the 'dumb groundhog' today...after all it is only the beginning of Feb and we do live in the Midwest. We're pretty much doomed with 4 more months of winter. :)

I love that movie! Some days I compare my life to Groundhog Day...reliving the same day over and over and over....
I don't know what day I would chose to relive. There are so many great days that I can't just pick 1!

I love this movie! We like to quote parts of it regularly. In fact, it is the only reason I care about groundhog day. A day to live over and over, I don't know, my freshman year of college was pretty great, or my trip to hawaii. Any day of that trip would be worth reliving.
