Buyer Beware...

You won't believe what I did.
I can't believe it, either.
I'm smarter than this!
But, at a weak moment I order it.
What was I thinking?
Oh, you know you were a little curious, too!
It promised to take away all the wrinkles...
Well, I don't have a lot of WRINLES...well, none yet...but what if I get one next week?
And, when I laugh I always scrunch up my nose...everybody says so....I'm sure that's bound to do damage...a lifetime of nose scrunching can't be good for anybody's face. And I laugh...a lot. My Dad called me "Giggles" growing up. And "Sunshine" (In fact, my friend Heather calls me that, too, now that I think of it...I love that!)...because I was always smiling. They don't call those laugh lines for nothing, you know.
So, the ads said that this was a miracle cream.
And, the product was so good they put jars of it in the gift bags at the last celebrity award show.
That sounded pretty impressive.
And, the best part was that the ad said I could get a bottle for the price of shipping and handling.
I mean, what could that possibly cost?
It didn't look like a big bottle, for Pete's sake!
So, I went on-line and ordered a bottle.
It only took a day or two for my Hydroxytone to show up at the door. I couldn't wait! I opened it up and there were two bottles in the box! Wow! Bonus!
And with it came a packing slip.
At first glance, I saw they charged my credit card the $6.95 shipping.
Good.
Then, after studying it further (and you had to really look at it closely) I saw that they were going to take out two payments of...
$69.95!!!! EACH!!!!
That's a lot of money for two tiny bottles of moisturizing cream!!!
I promptly called the number to talk to somebody and they gave me the run-around. I had to jump through some hoops, get a return RMA number, and make sure I had that on the return address label, and include it on the invoice which I needed to include in the box which I needed to mail back to them certified mail (all of this costing me $15.00)...it was a lot of time and money and hassle. The guy on the phone tried talking me into just keeping the cream and testing it for 30 days...he was a smooth talker, too! I think he could have sold refrigerators to eskimos. It almost made sense. If I had the cream in hand, why not try it for 30 days and return the used jars if I'm not satisfied. (But, he even said he couldn't promise results - ever...many women don't see any results for 4-6 months...so that would be over $600 later??? Uh...really???? He snuck that disclaimer in our conversation, but then rushed on to rave about what could happen - I could win the lottery tomorrow...I mean, I could find a ticket outside my door, because I don't play the lottery...anything can happen!)
After hanging up, I read ALL the fine print - and if I would have done as he said, they would have already taken money from my credit card - it was right there on the packing slip! AAARRRGHHH! I was SO MAD!!! I mailed it out the next day as discussed - to the tee - certified mail, so I have proof that they received it.
It was a hassle, and an expensive lesson - but not as expensive as it COULD HAVE BEEN! (Only $6.95 s&h plus the $15 to ship it back. Whew!)
And, I guess I'll take laugh lines over frustration and worry lines any day!!!!

It is hard to not fall for all that stuff, isn't it? And really, we regulate so many things in this country, we really need that whole S&H overcharging to be regulated.

That is some crazy expensive moisturizing cream!!!! It has to come with gold and diamonds for me to pay that price!!!

That was a lesson learned...expensive and a hassle but a lesson none the less!

I hope you are having a great Thursday!!!

Well. Do you know anyone who COULD afford to try this miracle cream out? I am always curious to know if it works.

I like your last thought....laugh lines over frustration lines any day!

Oh dear! Well, at least you were able to get it sent back and not be charged for it. That is crazy!

Don't feel bad Pennie, I got into one of those scams a couple of years ago too....they charge your credit card after 30 days and keep charging until you cancel. It was a real hassle to change it all and I had to cancel my credit card number because they kept charging me for months even though I had canceled!

If you are looking for a good moisturizer, I highly recommend Clinique! Love their stuff...and you can get it at the mall ;)

My sister bought an acai diet *antioxidant* trial thing... they fund it horrible tasting and wanted to return....but she had somewhere along the way approved them to charge her card for 6 months worth of shipment she couldn't get out of... she could return the trial bottle ... but not the 6 mo. worth?? (apparently it was in fine print??) ... she had to pay the $600 ... she was SOOOOOOOOOO mad!! That was not long ago~!!
