Last night we attended my son's high school's Underclassmen Academic Awards Night. He's a Freshman, so he received his high school letter for his letterman's jacket and an academic patch. Pretty impressive. The sophomores received a bronze pin and the juniors received a silver pin. The seniors have a seperate event with the town's rotary club where they receive gold pins. Each year's group gets smaller and smaller, because it's more and more difficult to maintain the B+ average or above to receive the award.
We were really proud of Aaron, but on the drive home we wondered how they could give him the award when his school year doesn't end until June 10th?! What if he tanks the rest of the year? (He won't! His parents are real annoying about keeping on him, I've heard...) But, seriously...how could they give out these awards with a quarter of school to go?
Do you want to hear Aaron's explanation? He said that they barely do anything fourth quarter! What???!!! (This is often the high school with the top scores in Wisconsin...what's up?) Aaron said that each of his classes only has one big final test left, or one big project this quarter. Now, I'm not sure that's true...it's coming from a 15 year old who's defending his letter - but, it just doesn't seem right, does it?
Kind of weird. They've got about 40.5 days left. That seems like a lot could happen to a grade point average in that time. Just sayin'...

Congrats to him! And it reflects well on his parents. Good job! Even if they slack off the last quarter...
Congrats to Aaron! (Have I ever mentioned I love the name Aaron!)
Yes, that does seem weird that awards are given over a month before school ends....a lot could happen (not to Aaron) but....
That is awesome!! Way to go! But it does seem odd that they would do it so early. I know for our seniors there isn't much the last quarter but that is because most of them are doing their paperwork for college and scholarships so they get a break!
