Catch Up Wednesday

Well, it's only been two days since I've posted...seems like a week! I've missed you!

I took Bridgette to the doctor. That's always an experience! Our doctor seldom sees either of us. She's only seen Bridge two or three times. Ever. We rarely get sick. Usually it's because of an emergency. Last time Bridgette had shingles. I can't remember when she was in before that - possibly for vaccinations? We're a hearty bunch.

The doctor asked Bridgette some questions.
Doctor: Do you get winded walking up a flight of stairs at school?
Bridgette: Hmmmm...I guess, but I just figured it was because I was tired. You know - because we have to wake up so early for school.
(The doctor raises her eyebrows.)
Doctor: Are you more tired than usual?
Bridgette: Sure - but, I'm a busy person. I have a lot of homework, and I volunteer and go to school and clubs.
Doctor: Does it hurt when you breathe in.
Bridgette: (While breathing in) Ummm...not too bad, I can handle it.
(Doctor looks at me and shakes her head.)
Doctor: Bridgette, you don't need to be tough for me.
Bridgette: What can I say? I'm my mother's daughter!

I was so embarrassed! My doctor already had me blacklisted and labeled as a patient she has to watch out for, and now my daughter is one, too. Worse yet, she put Bridgette on the table, and she has pneumonia! To add insult to injury, Bridge is allergic to penicillin and every antibiotic we've tried (and we've tried most of them!). So, our doctor wracked her brain and put Bridge on some steriods. And, she gave Bridge strict orders NOT TO BE STOIC and tell me right away if she gets short of breath while resting, feels warm (I need to make sure she doesn 't have a fever of 102 or higher for 2 days or more in a row), or plurisy (feels a sharp pain when she breathes in). So far, so good. She insisted on going to school the next day. She didn't have a fever and the doctor said it was okay...so I let her.

Yesterday was CRAZY, crazy, CRAZY!!!! I don't think I had time to breathe! I put 120 miles on the car before 11:30! I had a board meeting in Eau Claire in the morning. We met with a videographer who will be working with us, putting together a promotional DVD for SAMmy's. It's interesting. I've never done anything like this before. We've got her going to two of our chapters filming video footage. (Not the chapter I direct...) Then, I'm gathering four of my directors and a few of the gals from my chapter and in a few months we'll head to Eau Claire and she'll film me interviewing them for the DVD. I'm learning a lot! (But, I'm very glad I don't have to learn how to make a DVD!!!)

After the board meeting, I had to rush home and vote, get my meds from my porch (it's delivered via Fed-Ex in a cooler) and put it in the fridge, and head to another meeting.

From there, I had to come home to take Bridge to the library where she volunteers and then make dinner. I had been fasting for religious reasons and was STARVING!!! It was time to break the fast and I couldn't wait!!! I was also REALLY TIRED (probably because I hadn't eaten in two days) and had plans to go to bed early. I asked Aaron when he had to be at Karate and he told me he wasn't going. Do you know why? Because Mike told him that he and I were going to our cell group that evening at 6:30!!!!

I could have cried! That meant we'd be out until 9:30. And all I wanted to do was crawl into bed. I wasn't even that hungry anymore. And I hadn't eaten yet. Boo hoo!

But, I survived. Barely. I had no trouble sleeping, though. However, this morning I had a tad bit of trouble waking up at 5am...just a tad...
****
Now, it's 1pm Wednesday. I've had an amazing morning at SAMmy's. Another new mom showed up. Second week in a row that's happened. I love my SAMmy's sisters! The theme of the study today was true friendship...which is funny, because the story was about David's son's death. Who writes these studies anyhow? (haha - I do! I just didn't want the study to be a downer! So....the logical parallel??? Death....friendship! lol) Anyhow - the theme verse was "Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses." Our small group had great discussion!

Our large group has about 25 women + in it. I teach the large group, but then we break up into small groups to discuss what we learned. I lead a small group, too. My small group has these great women (no names) who are my friends that I celebrated today:
  • A woman who has a 15 month old, is 5 months pregnant, just moved to Hudson and whose husband just left for boot camp.
  • An ER nurse who works nights with a high schooler, middle schooler and preschooler.
  • A crazy friend who is currently competing with me for "Mom of the Year Award" by doing stupid things to her kids the past few days. Cosmotolgist mom of a college kid, middle schooler and two elementary schoolers...wife of a lame man.
  • Nurse at the VA Hospital weekends and nights. Mom of three high schoolers (one is Miss Hudson), two elementary schoolers. Husband is veteran of Iraq war with PTSS.
  • Realtor mom of 11 yr old girl, 5 yr old twin boys, 4 yr old girl.
  • Me.
  • Massage therapist with 4 yr. old boy.
Doesn't that sound like an interesting mix of women?! In our large group there's an even more eclectic mix. There is a pastor's wife, a police officer's wife, a postal worker, a Somalian, a former muslim, women from all different backgrounds and occupations! And once you get to know them, you realize that everyone has a story. There are stories of addictions, diseases, scandal, triumphs and failures. I wish you all could be part of it. (One of you who reads my blog is!) Seriously. You'd be a great addition! The more I learn, the more I realize how fascinating people are when you take the time to really get to know them and create a safe place for them to know and be known.

With that deep thought, I need to make my pillow a place I know right now. Man, I'm tired. I need a nap.

Bless her heart! But I think in life it is far better to be stoic than to be a cry-baby. I hope she is well soon.

Wow! You have been a busy woman! I would love to be in your group. Wish I lived close enough. Hope your daughter gets to feeling better. I know how she feels since I just had pneumonia a few months ago! I will say a prayer for her.

Maybe I should start a woman's group here ... that would be a way to meet some new friends! :)

Your life is crazy, lady! Let me know when things slow down and I will have you over for coffee (or have your whole family over for a weekend BBQ) or meet up with you somewhere because I miss you! :)

Wow! Your week sounds crazy... Very similar to mine actually...
I'm glad they found out what was wrong with Bridget. Hopefully the meds will kick it!
And I've got to know how you can get Mother of the Year award for doing stupid things to my kids! I think I might in the running for that.
