Monday Miscellany

So, I hope you had a good Easter Weekend. Our family sure did.

Everyone in our family had Good Friday off, so we all got to sleep in...a welcome benefit, since we're all used to waking up before the sun! Mike painted the bathroom, and I foolishly went grocery shopping at Cub for just a few things. It seemed EVERYONE ELSE had Good Friday off, too...and everyone else in the Twin Cities was at Cub! Yikes! I was only picking up a few items (the sale items...) and I'm not sure it was worth the hassle...except it was near lunch time and Mike called me on my cell and he met me for lunch at our favorite burger joint - Barker's - in Hudson. So, I got a lunch out of it. :) That night, the fam and I went to our church for a showing of The Passion of the Christ. Have you ever seen that? It came out a few years ago. I'm not sure how people can watch that and not be deeply moved. Mike thinks you have to know the Scriptures to really understand it, because there's a lot of symbolism referring to other Scriptures that is unsaid. But, anyhow - it was such a good reminder of what Good Friday is all about and put us all in the right frame of mind for the whole weekend.

Saturday, I told Bridgette that we were waking up BRIGHT AND EARLY because Rainbow Foods opened at 6am and we were going to beat the crowds. (So much for sleeping in.) She never protested, but I wonder if she wished I had never watched Extreme Couponing. But, I had spent all of Thursday getting all of my coupons organized (by aisle) and I promised her it wouldn't take long at all. Do you know what? Everyone in Minneapolis AND St. Paul were up and in the store by 7am! Seriously! Do you know why???? I wasn't aware of it, but the Easter Bunny made an appearance at 7:30AM!!! For Pete's sake! Who wakes their kid up so early and drags them to the grocery store to see the Easter Bunny??????

Who wakes their teenager up and drags them to the store to grocery shop, so they can beat the crowds?

Oh, yeah...

Anyhow, we saved a whole bunch...in case you're wondering. :) And, Bridgette had fun, too. I always make sure to slip a treat in there for her. :) I came home and spent the rest of the day (and evening) finishing up the project of cleaning and organizing our storage room downstairs. Mission accomplished! Ahhhh.... I only have to purchase some storage containers for my mother's china that she received as a wedding gift some 50+ years ago. I'd like to get that packed away properly and on a shelf. It's in moving boxes right now...but, they're tall moving boxes that weigh a ton and they can't be stored easily. I want them on a shelf...with my Currier & Ives dishes.

We normally would have gone to Mike's parents' for Easter, which is a 5 hour drive, but our church was putting the word out that they needed child care workers and Bridgette signed up to help. So, we stayed because we really want to foster that volunteer work ethic and we usually don't stay for Easter. My mom is only an hour away, so we ended up going to my mom's for Easter dinner. My mom insisted on making a ham dinner and all the fixings. She's a really good cook, and sent us home with most of the left-overs. (We love left-overs...and I know what's for dinner tonight!) My mom appreciated seeing us...it's been a few weeks since I've visited.

So, here I am, facing my Monday work: laundry, planning meals and vacuuming. The sun is out, so I'd like to get a walk in if I can, also. I'd love for you to tell me what you've been doing over your Easter weekend. When I get comments like that, it's like reading a letter or having a conversation with my friends and catching up over coffee. I just love that! So, bloggy friends - what did you do over the weekend?

Meri and I watched the Passion on Saturday afternoon. I try to watch it every year but it is emotionally draining... and one kleenex is not going to cut it...
Easter bunny at 7:30am? What kind of freaky bunny gets up that early?!

Well....

Friday, hubby had the day off so we spent most of the day outside since the weather was gorgeous. We put our new patio set together!
On Saturday, we had Justin's 4th birthday party with some family. I served lunch and cake and everyone stayed for presents. The rest of the day the kids played outside.
On Sunday, we did an Easter Egg hunt with the kids, ate some cinnamon buns, and then I baked cupcakes. Again, the kids spent the day outside. We went to my parent's house for dinner and had turkey with all the fixin's!

Sounds like you had a great weekend!

Sounds like you had a great weekend. Perhaps we'll catch you and B on extreme couponers in the near future?! That show makes me laugh so hard!

Friday I worked and ran a billion errands, including Meijer at 1130 at night. But I also went to dinner with a friend, which is always lovely.

Saturday my mom's family came over- 9 of us total. We had a ham dinner and all the fixin's and it was tasty! They stayed later than normal, but, at one point, I came up to my room to change, and could hear roars of laughter from the living room and it just warmed my heart. There truly is nothing better than family and laughter in the same room.

Sunday we slept in and hung out all day, then went to 530 Mass where it was NOT CROWDED AT ALL and HEAVENLY!

Color me impressed that you got up that early to shop and save money! My laziness wins out every time.

Sounds like a good time.
I got uncharacteristically mad at my family of origin. My dad ticked me off by adamantly insisting I change my parenting, then ticked me off again when my brother showed up two hours late AFTER Easter dinner. Prodigal son much?
I'll get over it in time for Mother's Day. (My dad will correct me again and my brother will be late, but hopefully I will do what I usually do and take it in stride.)

(Sorry to bummer down your blog....I won't post the whole saga on mine as it is too negative.)

What a great weekend! Getting up at the butt crack of dawn to go shopping got me though.....I would never have been able to get out of bed that early :)

The boys and I had a relaxing and comfy weekend at home lounging around in pj's and watching movies. On Saturday night I went over to my sisters house and my second youngest sister joined us for a girls night. We chit chatted and laughed our tails off....like always :)
Sunday I went to my sisters house and had dinner and then back home to relax. Monday and today I worked my last two shifts and in 45 min I will not have a job anymore...I will be a college student instead :)

Have a great Tuesday!!!
