Calling All Moms!

RRRRRRINNNGG! RRRRINNNNNG! RRRRINNNGG! RRRINNNNG!
Wait! Before you answer that, I need to ask you a few questions! Do your kids have cell phones?
Did you read my last post? About being in the high school, looking at their surveillance cameras because of a possible abduction involving Aaron? I freaked!
Did you read that -  what my last week has been like?
Twice I've misplaced my...
kids.
And they're not toddlers...
Who would have thought?
And I've been informed many times (by them) in the past few years that they're the only kids their age on this planet that don't have cell phones.
I'm beginning to believe them.
(In fact, that's the first question the lady in the high school office AND the campus officer asked me...what's his cell phone number?)
And I'm beginning to see a need for them, too.
So, I'm asking you, as moms...
What are the warnings I need to impart?
What rules are "musts" that you have attached to your children's phones?
Or, if you kids are too young, what rules would you give if your kids were old enough?
I want to cover my bases, come Christmas.
So, let me know what boundaries you would draw.
I do plan on having them put their phones on the counter in the kitchen to charge every night - and so I know they're not texting all night. 10pm-5am are sleeping hours in this house, not reading or texting hours.
But, what other rules or cautions do you have about texting, sexting (definitely NO driving and texting - but how does one monitor that?).
This is new territory for me, so I'd love to hear your ideas!

No texting at the dinner table either. Have access to their phone at all times. It is your right to take it away! Don't forget that phones have access to the web, so whatever your rules are for that.

Mine had to do his chores to keep his. Needless to say, he no longer has a phone! lol

My number one rule is that I have the right to check the phone at anytime!!! I haven't had too many problems with the phone.....one night where I caught Ty texting till the wee hours of the night!! I let him have the phone in his room because I call his phone to wake him up when I am at work. He knows the rules and is pretty good about following the rules

I have my teenagers' phone set up with parental controls. I have a list of numbers that she can call or text at any time.... all other numbers are blocked during school and after 10:30pm. ATT also has family maps, you can gps the phone.-It's accurate within a mile usually. Gives a good idea of location though.

HI Pennie, I did comment on your previous blog, but these are my rules, I can check the phone at any time, no matter what they are doing, I have to know every person whose's number they have on the phone, absolutely no cell phones at the table, and I have a curfew during the week and an extended curfew on the weekends.
