Getting Sidetracked

That's a problem for me.
I used to think I had ADD.
No, really!
I'd see those checklists of symptoms and I think I had most of them.
I secretly thought that I may be a candidate for Ritalin.
Until I had lunch with Shelly and she told me the same theory.
Then I knew it was just criteria for being a mom and having twenty million things on your mind.
You can't finish a thought (or a meal, or a chore) without an interruption...so by the time the kids are grown and leave you alone, you don't know HOW to finish anything!

So...(see? I got sidetracked!) today, while coming home from my Thursday Girls, I saw a Garage Sale sign.
Can't pass one of those babies up...unless it's in the wrong side of town...but I digress...
Anyhow...I scored!
Lookie here - I got an insulated Sherpani lunch bag for Bridgette (brand new) that looks like a purse for $3, and a shirt and scarf for 50 cents each:
But, what I'm REALLY excited about are the books I picked up for 25-75 cents each! I need to get a bunch of books for my summer reading. I love, love, love to read!!! And, so I picked up all of these to keep me stocked for the summer...Oh, I know I have plenty of WRITING to do for SAMmy's this summer...but I need some distractions from my writing or it wouldn't be right! ;) So, here are my summer writing distractions:

Skin by Ted Dekker: Dekker is a Christian thriller writer. I read one of his books that I liked, and one that I had a hard time getting into that I never finished - but in his defense, it was set in the Middle East and I just had a hard time understanding it all and I think I didn't jive with the story in general. I'm going to save this one for last.
More Than You Know by Beth Gutcheon: The first line of this book is, Somebody said, "True love is like ghosts, which everybody talks about and few have seen." I've seen both, and I don't know how to tell you which is worse. I started reading this book already and I love the writing. How can you go wrong with a first line like that?
The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd: She wrote The Secret Life of Bees, which I still never read - despite the recommendation of many people - including my SIL Stef and MIL (I have to do that!) and I knew I recognized her name from somewhere (I just read inside the book jacket that she wrote The Secret Life of Bees) - so I'll bet this will be a good read. I haven't met a person who's read The Secret Life of Bees and not liked it.
Drowning Ruth by Christina Schwarz: This is an Oprah's Book Club book. I wouldn't pick a book just because of that, though...some of those books are downright weird (case in point: Map of the World). All I read on the back was "A gripping psychological thriller...Mathilda Neumann drowns beneath the ice of a rural Wisconsin lake..." That's all I needed. I like psychological thrillers. And I'm from Wisconsin. Yeah, really.
The Confessions of Max Tivoli by Andrew Sean Greer: It's about a boy born with the physical appearance of an old man, (but doesn't think like one) and grows younger every year - trying to win the heart of the same woman three times...and she doesn't recognize him. I wonder if The Amazing Story of Benjamin Button or something like that - that movie with Brad Pitt - is based on this book? I'm not sure. I was boycotting Brad Pitt at the time. That movie came out about the time he left Jennifer and went with Angelina. I quit liking him then and I wouldn't see it.
Open House by Elizabeth Berg: I have no idea why I chose this - perhaps against my better judgment. It's an Oprah Book Club selection and it's a love story. I hope I don't fall asleep on the beach and get sunburn.
Releasing The Rivers Within by Dwight Edwards: No, it's not about incontinence! This is a book about overflowing with God's presence. Nonfiction - this is my serious book of the summer, so my brain doesn't completely rot out of my skull.
The Beach House by Jane Green: Total fluff! I read Jemima J once and had such a wonderful time doing so! It was an indulgence to say the least. She may not be totally classy or squeaky clean, but she is 100% chick lit and a fun read, to be sure. This will be a quick read, even though it is 341 pages (worth all 50 cents I paid for it!). :)

So...have you read any of these picks? Were they fun? What did you think? What's on your summer reading list? Do tell!

I haven't read any of those books...but I have read The Secret Life of Bees...and it's great! So I imagine The Mermaid Chair will be good too!

Sometimes I feel like I have Early Alzheimer's...I'm always forgetting stuff. But then I realize that I can't keep a thought for more than a second because my kids are always interrupting me ;)

I read The Mermaid Chair - I liked it.
I read Drowning Ruth - I liked it. It was different.
I also read, or tried to read Open House. I didn't finish it, but that doesn't mean You won't like it.

You got me thinking I need to hit some more garage sales.

I think your ADD theory is RIGHT ON!!

:)
