Well, another manic Monday is upon us...even more manic than usual, I think, because it's the Monday before school starts. Sigh. We must face the facts...summer vacation really must come to end. Sigh. And so today I woke the kids up at 6:30am. During the school year we get up at 5:30. Tomorrow, they must set their alarms and wake themselves up at 5:30. They've already argued the logic of this "preparing our body's clock" for the school year. C'mon kids, I'm only doing it for two days prior to the start of school - I'm having mercy! And, it's for your own good! I've discussed that we're working on having good moods at 5:30am. (Actually, I've commanded that we WILL be HAPPY, darn it, come morning! So, smile, for Pete's sake! Or, something like that...imagine how effective THAT was at 6:30 this morning when teenagers are used to getting up 10am? In truth, I said it kind of looney, and they cracked up. I think they wonder if I'm off my rocker sometimes, and it amuses them...always keep them guessing, Mammas...always keep them guessing. It keeps them on their toes!)
Anyhow, today my friend Deqo (pronounced Day-Koe) came over to visit. I originally planned to do all sorts of back-to-school breakfast cooking and putting it in the freezer...but that didn't happen. She brought me some Somalian rice that I plan on using for my side dish tonight (thanks, Deqo!) and we talked about the evils of low-rise jeans (who wants to see that view? ever want to toss a quarter in there?) and finding the right fit, the joys of thrift store shopping (especially purses!) and talked about other personal things. It was a great visit...I'll do my back-to-school breakfast cooking tomorrow!
Tonight, I plan on getting the kids' backpacks all organized. They have all their stuff. I had to run out after Aaron's Freshman orientation and get a flash drive for his engineering class. Both he and Bridgette already have one for their English classes, but he needed one to keep in class for his Autocad projects. This high-tech stuff is pretty impressive. I don't know...I was a smart kid back in the day - but I'm not a techie brain-type. I don't know that I'd be considered a smart kid by these standards anymore. Yikes!
After all that - I have a massage scheduled. Yep, I do!!! It was actually a gift from Jen (Oils for Wellness). She has a studio here in my hometown. She gave me a gift certificate when my dad died LAST SEPTEMBER!!!! We were joking...I guess my life has been...uh...busy? Perhaps I need to reevaluate things when it takes me a good 11 months to make good on a FREE MASSAGE because my schedule's too busy... (I used to laugh because it took me two years to read "Home Management for Busy Women." That was during one REALLY BUSY time in my life...also, there were no pictures...haha...I just added that last part because it was funny. It's also true. But, honestly - I do read "real" books now and again. I can even spell some three syllable words. Honest! But, I mostly stick to two syllable words, unless I'm really sure...)
And now that the kids are going back to school, I start turning my attention back to my "school stuff," which is my ministry stuff - SAMmy's. Oh - and I'm going to join a book club my friend Heather is in. They do one classic and then various other books throughout the year...one book a month. I'm looking forward to it. Heather - if you're reading this, I already bought the first book (Summer at Tiffany) and am half way through, but I need directions to the house where we're meeting and more details! What do you consider your "school?" You know - the stuff you do throughout the fall, winter and spring months regularly?

I don't do anything school-like. I try not to use my brain as much as possible. It doesn't seem to work these days! Go figure.
Hey Pennie....just stopping by to say "hi". I am actually a blogger from Wisconsin too. Rodman's Road of Life is my sister-in-law. I saw you commented and thought I would stop and take a peek. I, too, have a crazy, busy life....I am a real estate appraiser and a photographer so mostly I just blog my pics I take. I am married (almost 30 years now to a wonderfully amazing husband), have two daughters (one actually worked in Hudson for several years and lives in St Paul now) and the other here in Medford with our 6 year old grandaughter. I am very blessed with family and friends. Stop by and take a peek sometime. I love your stories - reminded me of a few years ago when I was getting my teenagers off to school.....although today I got to go with to take my grandaughter.
Great blog....thanks for sharing your life.
