I have survived the weekend! I'm sure many of you moms feel the same way. I don't even have an excuse of making some creative costume for some child for Halloween or anything like that. Just a game of beat the clock. Same old, same old. :)
I actually had a really packed schedule from Friday through Sunday - which I whined about on an earlier post. It started Friday with my Science presentation to the 8th grade class. You notice how I said my Science presentation. Actually, it was Bridgette and I. Thanks for your votes of confidence - I got to read a few before I left for class, and once I got there - you were right - it ended up being a smash! Bee and I had practiced, so that part went smoothly. The kids were great - they LOVED having a treat (we made ice cream that ACTUALLY turned out and looked like ICE CREAM!!! BONUS!). The teacher was talking to the Special Ed teacher (who looked like one of the 8th graders, btw - adorable, little, thin - I'm old!) and then approached me and said that they had been talking and wondered what I did for a living because Bridge and I had the students so engaged. What a compliment. But the best part? You should have seen Bridgette take charge and present this thing with me. (She worked the Smartboard...) We were a great team - but she was a natural! I was so proud of her. She worked the room. I saw how she interacted with all the kids...and you could tell they all adored her. To be a mom and see that. She's such a gentle soul, and her classmates all treat her that way - like they protect her and treat her with respect. It was so cool! And the way she could give a speech! I can't believe this kid is 13. I couldn't have been more proud.
Well, I had a packed schedule for most of Fri. and Sat., but my plans changed when Mike called and told me that he and his 4 buddies were driving home from Colorado (they were elk hunting) and they would be home some time Saturday. Saturday???? It was SUPPOSED to be Sunday! That caused me to rethink and redo my previous weekend schedule. Mike told me that 4 extra guys may or may not be having dinner at our house (so have a pot of chili or something, in the event they do), and they may or may not spend the night (so have clean bedding on the guest bed and in Aaron's room - and make sure the house is spotless), depending on if they want to drive straight through or not. And, maybe breakfast for Sunday morning. Okay...so I had to rearrange quite a bit to do some EMERGENCY cleaning on Saturday morning. Luckily, I'm pretty laid back and I can go with the flow pretty easily. And, it's not like I'm going to buck him coming home a day early!
Saturday afternoon I had promised my friend Michelle that I would help her put on a birthday/costume party for her daughter. I dragged Bridgette along to help. We pulled that off in the afternoon. Mike called while I was there and said they were in South Dakota and wouldn't be home until 9:00 or 9:30 and the guys were going to drive straight through and not spend the night. (Good - I didn't have to rush home to make chili and I had a clean house!) Michelle and I figured that I had enough time to drop Bee off at home and do dinner and a movie before the guys got home - so we did!
I got home from dinner and a movie about 8:30, and had an hour to do a run-through in the house...and then Mike came home. It was SO GOOD to see him! Sunday we spent the day just hanging out, unpacking and doing errands together. It was a great day...and the weather here is amazing!!!
Last night, the kids were lamenting not being able to trick or treat - well, Bridgette was, anyhow. You see, in our hometown kids trick or treat until they are Juniors in High School. Seriously. I have never heard of something so stupid. Our kids will not be doing that! Grow up! So, Bridgette and Aaron and Aaron's buddy Noel dressed up and scared kids who came to trick or treat. Bridgette dressed up like a scarecrow and propped herself up by a bowl of candy on the porch with a sign that said "Take 2 Pieces, Please". We turned on our porch light, so it looked like we were gone. Aaron and Noel hid in the bushes. The boys jumped out at the group of trick or treaters first, and they would scream. Then, they'd think that was the "trick," so they'd march up to the candy bowl, laughing at being spooked. They'd think Bridgette was just a stuffed shirt and pants and pillowcase headed scarecrow...until she'd growl and grab for them - then they'd REALLY scream! They had fun, anyhow...
How was your weekend?

I don't think I know anybody who has a more full schedule than you - and when it changes, you go with the flow so gracefully. I really hope to be able to follow suit in that amazing quality of yours! It sounds like a crazy weekend, but you pulled it off and did it so incredibly wonderfully!
I love that your kids decided to do some scaring of their own! Too funny :) You guys are definitely a fun bunch! :)
I think your weekend was busier than mine!
Your daughter sounds like everyone loves her in middle school. What a proud mom you must be!
The presentation sounds great and I love the scaring!! To funny.
We had one family with a live person dressed up on the portch, when I told 3 yr. old to ring the doorbell he said, "NO! You ring it."
I am so glad the project went well! And it sounds like they had a great Halloween after all :)
Oh my gosh...my kids would freak! I'm sure they didn't do that to the little ones?!
Sounds like a busy weekend...but really, when aren't you busy ;)
I am tired just reading about all the stuff you have been doing this weekend!!!
I'm glad to hear that Mike is home....you must be so pleased :o)
I knew you would do great at the school....you are a natural!!!
Poor Bridgette for not getting to go Trick or Treating....It's hard to grow up :( The kids sound like they had a blast scaring everyone though LOL!!!

glad the ice cream went well... I was actually thinking about that last night and wondered if Sea Salt (bigger than table salt) would make thicker milk shakes?!! haha! =) I might have to do this science experiment with my kids!! besides the photo challenge next week is the letter I... I need a few things to photograph!! ha ha!!
oh... broken camera is a broken LCD screen... so I can point and shoot... and hope I am pointing at the right object... many pics turn out blurry b/c I can not read if it is in focus, can not see what I am photographing...etc. anyway... it is more frustrating than anything... but I do end up with good memory shots... but my artistic side is feeling frustrated! no close ups either! *sigh* I love playing with macro!! =( my neck is getting better... but I am still on the couch! double sigh! ;)
