Monday Miscellany

I'm back in town after my Thanksgiving weekend - and what a weekend it was! I sure hope you all had a great one, too!
My mom lives an hour away, but the weather report was kind of "iffy" around here. She was originally going to come to my house for Thanksgiving dinner, but she gets a little nervous driving if there's even a chance of rain or snow, and she doesn't like to drive in the dark, etc. so I just made things easy on her (and myself, to tell you the truth) and I made Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday and we drove to her house on Thursday and heated it up. Boy, did I like that! All of the messy dishes were done on Wednesday and we just enjoyed the company and had a wonderful visit! Nobody left her house hungry, either!
Friday, we made the five hour drive to Mike's folk's place and spent the weekend with his family. His brother and family drove down, too and so the whole family was together. Since we drove on Black Friday, I didn't get to shop on that crazy day (I'm not broken up about it in the LEAST!), but Saturday my SIL Stef and I did some damage - and had absolutely no crowds to fight, either! It was fabulous! And, guess what? I'm almost all done with my Christmas shopping! I don't think I've ever been this organized! Ever! I did some of it at the end of Christmas sales last year - I got my three 20-something nieces' gifts who all have their own places (I can't tell you what, in the event they read this), but I got $50 gifts for $10...so their gifts are worth more than what the other nieces and nephews gifts are worth, but they cost less...oh, well...it looks like I favored them, but actually I spent less! The other kids are much YOUNGER and they wouldn't even want what I got the older girls, so hopefully they won't notice...
If you want an idea for a great gift that you can give that will cost you NOTHING (the greatest deal of all!) - don't forget to sign up for my giveaway for the Flipped DVD by leaving a comment on my post here, if you haven't already!
What great deals did you get this weekend? What's the best gift you bought this year so far? I am doing picture books from Shutterfly...those are great gifts! I am doing one for Mike with the words from the 23rd Psalm (The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want...) and using our pictures from our Glacier trip this past summer. That's my most creative gift. I purposely took photos for that photo book - I got that idea when we were out there. Like for "The Lord is my shepherd" I took I picture of a mountain goat. And, for "Yea, though I walk through the valley of death I fear no evil" I took a picture of this desolate part of the mountail that had been burned by a forest fire, and all the trees look like parched sticks. I'm sure Mike wondered why I took such an ugly picture. (But he's too nice to say anything.) I also made a picture book from that girl's week I took with my mom and sisters, daughter and niece to the North Shore of Lake Superior this past summer for my Mom - she loved that trip! She's going to go ga-ga over the picture book!
So, really - I want to know your best deal and your best gift so far. I love hearing about that. Especially your best gift...because I might want to copy. Imitation is the purest form of flattery, right?

Good idea on the photo book. I need to do one of the kids for The Coach.

We also got a lot of shopping done. Still some to do, but we are having fun!

I am glad you enjoyed your holiday.

Sounds like your Thanksgiving weekend was wonderful :)

I am done with all the Christmas presents except there is one present I want to get each of the boys and then I need to get my niece and nephew something but I already have some ideas...I saved the best ones till last :)

I bought my mom art work from this lady that I met in Sept and then when I went to go get the present for my mom I saw the perfect gift for my sister....a painting of a girl that could be my sister LOL. Not really but I bought two paintings from the lady, one for me and the other one for my sister and they resemble our personalities so much that I had to get them :)

I am off to bed now it is 1:30 am and I am still up :( Good night!

So glad you had a great Thanksgiving with all of your family! Is there anything better? And don't worry about looking like you favored the older girls... kids have no concept of how much things cost, anyway ;)

Well, the only gift I've bought is for myself. So selfish, huh? BUT I'm making one of the gifts for my parents. Have you seen letter art (if not, you can google those two words and see images)? They are photographs of architecture that resemble letters, and you can create a collage that spells out something. I'm going to downtown Indy to take photos to spell out our last name. My mom briefly mentioned wanting one a few months ago and I stored it in memory. I looked to see how much they cost already done and they are over 100 bucks! My last name is four letters, so I thought "I can easily do that myself!" Hopefully it turns out as well as I'm picturing!

I am just not a shopper at all, so a few weeks before Christmas I sacrifice a day, make a list and hit the shops, maybe now you are finished you can come and do mine????
