Well, this weekend was full of action!
Friday I was busy baking, baking, baking. Between Thursday and Friday I made six pies - yes SIX! Two rhubarb, one apple-raisin-walnut, one blueberry and two cranberry-apple. And, I made one big banana bread and three mini ones. They all went to the bake sale, much to Aaron's dismay. After pricing everything with Melissa and carting it off to the bake sale, setting up with Melissa and Cindy and coming home I collapsed in a heap with fatigue! I ended up having Bridgette make spaghetti for dinner. Bless that girl! She helps out so much!
Saturday, we had the SAMmy's Bake Sale at the Catholic Church Craft Sale in town. There were a bunch of exhibitors - I'll bet there were 75, at least - probably more - I'm not that great at estimating... I got these great dish scrubbies that this older woman crochets out of nylon netting. They are THE BEST, and you can just throw them in your dishwasher to clean them - and they don't melt. They're great! They also had these slabs of soap that are covered in Alpaca Wool or something like that you can wash with...they are in little fuzzy soap rounds that you use in the place of a washcloth. And, as the soap shrinks from use, so does the wool around it. Pretty amazing stuff! We did pretty well at the bake sale...sold almost everything. I did purchase four of Melissa's single-serve apple crisps for dessert on Sunday. I was tempted to just take them home because they were left at the end (there was almost nothing left), but I bought them to make our earnings an even number. Bridgette helped me at the bake sale Saturday. She's like my right hand helper all the time now. Luckily, she loves it and all my friends love her to death (really, how can you not? She's a great kid...). It was really a lot of fun visiting with the SAMmy's girls who shared the shifts with us and with the other vendors. We ran out of bags to give to customers, so the vendors behind us that we made friends with (they were Stampin' Up consultants selling homemade cards) offered us their bags. They were really nice ladies and we had a great time with them! They were great company!
And, of course, Saturday night was the time change. Still not sure how we get an extra hour of sleep and wake up tired...hmmm...but it seems to go that way every year. *yawn*
Sunday, after church and lunch, Mike and I took a road trip to a town a ways away to bring his elk head in to have a taxidermist work on it. (Dead animal head...Romantic, no???) The ride there and back was nice. No kids - we were able to have conversation without having to censor it or anything!!! Bonus! It was really nice. We really like to have that private time. That's the great thing about having older kids - no sitters to pay, and they appreciate when you leave them alone now and then. I really like this stage. And later last night, Aaron and Bridgette wanted to get the first Harry Potter movie. They had never seen it. (You can gasp now. Get it over with. I'm sure you think this is child abuse or something. I am a REALLY strict parent and was VERY protective over EVERYTHING the kids watched way back then. Even now. I didn't want them getting into the Potter movies when they were little. Sue me. I had my reasons. You'll have to trust me on that one. I won't elaborate, either. But, now, I feel like they're old enough to be able to handle them and watch them objectively. So....they wanted to rent it.) But, they wanted Mike and I to see it. We were afraid it was going to be like "Lord of the Rings." (Those of you who loved that movie, SORRY...both of us fell asleep during that movie...we couldn't follow all the terminology. Guess we're not smart enough...) It was kind of cute, though - our teens want us to leave them alone, but they still want us to experience things with them. They still want us to do stuff with them. I love it. Mike wanted to do something else. I talked to him and explained that they got the movie because they wanted to do a FAMILY ACTIVITY...so I guilted him into experiencing it with the fam.
Man, that movie's long.
We watched it until 9:10...I think it's about half way through.
We'll watch the rest another time.
Perhaps tonight.
But, it's definitely easier to follow than Lord of the Rings.
Which, for the record, I did make it through after the first time I fell asleep.
And, for the record, Mike never did.
Does that make me smarter?

Mmmm.....I'll take an order of pies! YUM. Sounds like a great weekend Pennie. I can't imagine the days when my boys are teenagers :0 It's great that you have a close relationship with your kids and they still want to hang with you guys!
I have never seen any of the Lord of the Rings movies and I have never seen any of the Harry Potter movies!!! Call me crazy but those movies are just not for me!!!
You had such a busy weekend!! When do you not though? All I do is work and when I am not working I am too tired to do anything else so I sit at home looking dazed :o) I am totally exaggerating (dunno if I spelled that right???)!
Have a great Tuesday!!!

my hubby and I will watch all the HP movies from now until the new release... LOVE Harry week! ;) So fun... we end up quoting it for weeks... and waving our "wands" around for weeks too... silly... but we love it!! the kids... will see it when they are 15!! ha ha!! ;)
ps I LOST ... yes LOST my bakerella book?!! what??!! it HAS to be in my house somewhere... but seriously... it is MIA! only me. ;)
Oh wow! Those pies sound delish! I need to get me some pumpkins and make some soon.
We really are very alike, and I know if we lived in the same town, we would be good friends. Both busy bees..... I have tried to watch the Lord of the Rings 4 times....... it just does absolutely nothing for me, except send me off to sleep, as for Harry Potter if you take it in a light hearted vein....... and don't look for stuff.... quiet enjoyable watching.
one day Pennie... one day... we will at least get to meet and have a girly day together!! ;) I know we will get along splendidly!! Thank you for the wonderful comment!
