I had to come up with a gift, and wanted to give a fruit basket. There is a limited amount of places to get a decent fruit basket, because I didn't want it to look cheap. I wanted to really spoil the person I was giving it to - they'd been through a really rough patch. So, I went to Kowalski's (the upscale grocery store around here...nothing's cheap, but they have top notch things, for sure!). No fruit baskets - darn! So, while I was there I picked up some great looking fruit - oranges, apricots, peaches, etc. along with some bread and dipping oil...the whole nine yards. I wanted to get something practical to put it all in. I saw a collander there (that was WAY TOO EXPENSIVE)...but it gave me an idea. I went to a cheaper department store and bought a Paula Dean crockery 9 x 13 pan in speckled blue and put it all in there. It turned out SO CUTE! I was pretty proud of myself.
Check it out!
I took this picture before I added the papayas...I had two of those, too. But, isn't it cute? And, it was probably a fraction of the cost had I bought it already assembled. I bought one of those cellophane bags you put over baskets and attached a bow...It ended up looking pretty fine!
I may not be crafty, but I can put fruit together in a pan! lol

What a great idea! You are so clever to come up with that workaround. :)
What a wonderful gift idea...it looks wonderful!
That is awesome! You did great. I especially like the crockery dish. Very creative!
I love it! Such a great idea. I love the fact that she now has a nice dish that she can use and not just a basket that you have to try and figure out what to do with it. Kuddos to you!!
I love it, especially the pan you put it in. That color rocks!
