Monday Miscellany

Saturday was really the day that was fun for me, being my anniversary and all.
I had to wake up at 6am.
*YAWN*
Can you imagine?
On a Saturday?
I'm a stay-at-home mom!
But, it's because I'm a SAHM that I had to get up! (Mike's reasoning...can you tell?)
Bridgette was at a youth group lock-in. Every year they plan it from 6pm-6am.
I suppose if I was a leader, and I had to stay awake with 100+ teenagers all night, I would have them leave at 6am, too...
*****
Then, I came home and tried to sleep a little. Mike bounced up at 7:30 and informed me that we had to leave soon. We were driving to the taxidermist's!
Now, I'll bet none of you have had the privilege to pick up something SO FINE on your anniversary:
I know, don't be jealous of our elk head. It's incredibly romantic! It will make its way to our wall eventually. I know you want it! lol
This is the elk Mike got elk hunting last fall. The taxidermist just got done bleaching it or whatever he did. Mike and I did, however have a nice drive through beautiful countryside to get there. We love to do that - long rides together on Saturday mornings. No kids. Good conversation. Good coffee. Ahhhhh... It was lovely!
*******
After the trip to Durand (the taxidermist), we went to Maplewood, MN to comparison shop carpeting for our living room and flooring for our kitchen/laundry room.
*******
I managed to sneak in coffee with my long-lost friend Michelle who is working now and I never get to see her. We've been trying to get together for two or three weeks...it's been a circus! But, we got a little over an hour to try to cram things in before Mike and I went out for our anniversary.
*******
We went to Mama Maria's (Laura - you must know where that is!) - a great Italian place in North Hudson. I got Salmon. (I ALWAYS get salmon when we go out to a fancier place. I try to get something else, but I always end up getting salmon...I love salmon!) It was YUMMY!)

We were laughing at one point about a foible I made this week. I saw an acquaintance of ours who is...stoic? reserved? very closed off? If you ever watched Frasier she is Lilleth...anyhow, I saw her out in public. She made a move when we said good-bye that appeared to me like she was going to HUG me good-bye. (Guess what? She wasn't...) So, I hugged her - and her arms were stiff - so, basically I almost wrestled her and hugged her while she stiffly stood there...it was pretty hilarious. Mike was shocked when I confessed what I did.
You hugged her? He said. (Probably because this is not the first time I've done awkward things in her presence...Mike has, too. They don't get his humor...and I am just socially awkward when they're around. I say the wrong thing unintentionally - ALL. THE. TIME. For which Hubby never let's me forget-Bless his heart!)
I said Yep.
And then, picturing the scene, we both were almost rolling on the floor laughing at the absurdity of it all - me FORCING her to hug! (I'm really a very unaggressive, happy person. Most people like me. I don't think she does.)
Mike asked me what I was thinking.
I tried to explain to Mike that most of my girlfriends and I hug. We hug "hello," we hug "good-bye." It's just what we do... It didn't seem unusual to me to think that's what she was about to do...
Mike could not believe that my girlfriends and I hug. He thought I was making excuses.
But - really! We do!

Just then, I looked across the room to see an old friend - Gina - and her husband being seated.
I knew this person really does like me! She and I hadn't seen each other in a few years.
I caught her eye and waved.
A smile lit up her face as she recognized me and came over.
I looked at Mike and said, "Watch - She will hug me!"
She came over and hugged me and then said "I need to hug you again!"
I winked at Mike over her shoulder.
See? I told you so!
We made some small talk and caught up as well as we could in 5 minutes or less and she hugged me AGAIN before she went back to her table.
And that, my dear husband, proves my point.
I told you so!!!
(Oh, Gina! It was not only good to see you...it was so GREAT to prove my point!)

Oh - and before I sign off today, I will save you the trouble of renting these three HORRIBLE movies that are a true waste of money:
The Disappearance of Alice Creed (If you look at the cover, or read the back and wonder "What in World was Pennie thinking?" please know that my 15 year old son picked that out...I never had high hopes for it...we couldn't even get through a quarter of it...ugh! So bad!)
Hereafter It had Matt Damon in it - I thought "It has to be good!", right? Wrong! Half the movie has subtitles because it's not in English, which I can handle...except throughout the whole movie...nothing happens. Really. Flat plot. It is so bad. Matt Damon had to be doing this as a favor to somebody. Seriously.
The Tourist Okay, this one I really expected to be good. Aaron and I both thought so - Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp PLUS it's a spy movie! Well, folks - it wasn't that they plugged two stars into a good movie...they plugged two good stars into a crappy movie. Can you say cheesey???? It's just Angelina Jolie walking around looking pretty and Johnny Depp looking good. The movie is so lame. Aaron still liked it....because he's a 15 year old boy and I've noticed that he likes anything with Angelina Jolie...but if I bring that up, he denies it. I suppose he can't help it. Probably the larger population of 15 year old boys like anything with Angelina Jolie. But, if you don't have a 15 year old boy, your family won't enjoy this movie.

That was my weekend, in a nutshell. :) What did you do this weekend????

I saw the Tourist LAST weekend. You're right. Kind of blah. I did love the clothes and for that it was worth it the dollar I spent at the theater...
I sent my daughter and a friend to Redbox this weekend and they came back with the A-Team (did not watch, hubs and his brother & sister did), Inception (will watch sometime soon) and something about MoonAcre which we already had, but daughter didn't realize. And that one is kind of lame too.
Thanks for the heads up on those movies! I'll be able to save 2 hours of my life from being blah-ed out...

Justin (Are you Shelly's Justin?) I think we'll name the Elk "Freddy", because he's kinda Scary...Angel won't go near him...she's spent the morning shaking every time she looks toward the steps...(the elk is downstairs in the family room) When she heard Aaron getting ready this morning in his downstairs bedroom, she freaked out! She hid under the chair. Mike swears she's not a dog. Our last dog, Copper, would have been trying to EAT the elk skull...Angel won't go near it.

Ha! I do goofy things too sometimes and my husband always laughs afterwards too. I just don't have a filter when it comes to some people...LOL!

My DH and I love to go for drives actually in your neck of the woods sometimes. We love WI! But for us, the kids are usually in their car seats too. But it's a great way to get them to go to sleep. BTW, you need to share some good coffee shops with me so we can try them out when we are over that way!

The elk head...um, yeah. ;-)

I am not so jealous of the elk, but I am jealous of the drive and the coffee.
I am the non-hugger in my group and it throws people off. I guess people figure since I talk all the time and am outgoing I will also be a hugger. I am not. I am always going right when I am supposed to go left and so on. So I would rather skip it unless I am hugging someone who knows how clumsy I am.
I say you just keep hugging her like you never noticed her awkwardness!!
Thanks for the heads up on the movies.

This weekend hum, lemme see.....

Saturday my Mom and sister came and helped me take a few things to the dump (I am working on emptying out the house). Then Saturday night we had a girls night (mom, sister and I) and stayed up until 2 am chit chatting :)
Sunday we went to my cousins daughters birthday and had a mini family reunion :)

ohhhh I LOVE Mama Marias! We haven't been there in forever...maybe it's time.

The taxidermist thing totally cracked me up, sounds like something Matt would think was *really* cool to do on our anniversary. :)

And the hug thing, hilarious! It's definitely a girl thing. Well most girls I guess. SO funny that your old fiend hugged you TWICE right after you were talking about it with Mike! haha

Hope you are having a good week! No baby yet, but you'll know when it happens. :)
