I DID IT!

Whew! I cannot tell you how relieved I am that Saturday afternoon is over. Oh, sure - it was fun having Mike's brother Jeff over for the weekend...that wasn't the problem. He and Mike had a blast with their other brother Chris scouting deer hunting land Saturday. And, I had fun with Chris' wife Steff, and her daughter Rosa...like I always do when we're together (which is not often enough, I'm afraid). But, I was dreading Saturday...because I had to drive to Cottage Grove, MN to get to Aaron's Karate tournament.

Yes, I know how to Mapquest - and I did. But, I've done that before. If Cathy's reading this, she's probably laughing by now. I have something wrong deep inside of me. There's an internal compass most people have that is seriously broken. I often end up lost, and if I am anywhere in the Eau Claire or Chippewa Falls area, I usually call Cathy. I have a saying, "God is my co-pilot. Cathy is my GPS."

Let me share a traumatic memory from several years ago. I was supposed to pick up my daughter from school, make it 45 minutes through Minneapolis traffic to where my husband worked and pick him up so he could drive us 2 hours to where my son was at camp with his classmates. We were going to have dinner with him. I got turned around in RUSH HOUR, ended up on the wrong highway across town and was several hours late. Of course I forgot my cell phone at home, so I had to stop at the University to use their land line to call my husband at work to help me through. We were HORRIBLY late. EVERYONE was mad at me. We missed dinner (which was no sacrifice, let me tell you - the food was horrible!), and even though we all survived the memory still makes me ill.

But, Saturday, between my Mapquest directions, and Steff in the passenger's seat, we ended up at the right high school in Cottage Grove...even though one of the mileage estimations on the Mapquest directions was off. We were even on time, however the events at the tournament were not - so we waited around...but, it was worth the wait! Aaron ended up taking 2nd place in sparring, and getting a nice trophy. Yeah, Aaron! It was a triumph for the both of us.

This summer I am driving my mom and my sisters and I north of Duluth for a girlie getaway on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Should be an adventure, don't you think? :)
