I am SO EXCITED to tell you that my living room sofa is history. My velour sofa. The one that used to be Mike's grandma's. It was really old when we inherited it. I wish I had a picture to post for you. It was quite a sight. Mike and I are practical people, and the only brand new furniture we've ever bought was our bedroom set and Aaron's bed. I've wanted a new sofa since we've been married...and this velour number is actually an upgrade from some of the other used sofas we've had in the past. (The avacado and gold paisley sofa Mike had when we first got married was quite "groovey", to say the least...I'd take our velour sofa over that one any day...)
Isn't this a GORGEOUS sofa? It totally fits with my decor. My walls are still white, with no pictures on them, but once we get the basement remodeling done, we'll start painting the upstairs rooms, and start hanging pictures on the walls...it's only been three years in this house!
See how the sofa matches my antique trunk? And see the little brass nameplate on the sofa? The chair has one, too! How cute is that???
I'm a "glass half-full" kind of girl, and I was talking to Michelle last summer about my sofa and told her that maybe in another thirty years it might come back into style. Being the realist she is, she said, "Honey, that sofa will never come back into style." I know she's right...but, it's just PERFECT for a college kid.
So, when my niece Jackie needed a sofa for college and Mike said she could have ours, I could have jumped for joy. In fact, I think I did. (Because, that would mean we would have to part with it and get a different one...maybe even a NEW one!)And, Michelle was at my house when Jackie and her parents showed up last Saturday to take it away. I think there may have been tears in her eyes as she helped them carry it out. The absence of a sofa in our living room meant that we needed to go sofa shopping, and we had a BEAUTIFUL Italian leather one delivered today with a matching chair!!!!! This is serious furniture, and I am SOOOOO EXCITED - definitely worth waiting 16 years for! When my husband does decide to purchase something new, he has exceptional taste. We probably will never get another sofa in our lifetime (as I said, we're very practical people and this will probably not wear out before we die...) :) but I just had to share my excitement with you all! Here are some pics:
This chair is a recliner. We're saving money and watching sales to purchase a chair that looks like this one that is not a recliner along with a matching ottoman to put on the other side of the room, and then put that cabinet that is behind the chair in between them.
Can you tell I'm excited???? I never get new furniture, so this is REALLY COOL!!!!!!
