Another Year, Another Day, and More Random Thoughts This Morning

Okay...still working on my New Year's Goals. It helps that my friend Megan is doing them with me. My goals have become something I'm praying about, too...so they are more than just resolutions. I have goals in various areas of my life: marriage, parenting, ministry, personal growth, financial, etc. I need something in writing so that I know what I'm shooting for, or I will just kind of wander through the year and not be very effective. I'd hate for that to happen!

I've had a tough year already. I was on some meds that had HORRIBLE side effects. My doctor prescribed a different med, but my insurance company said I HAD to try this horrible med first. After my mouth got so dry that my tongue cracked (are you cringing yet?) and I had awful mouth sores, and they took over a week to review the case, they decided to give me the original med my doctor prescribed. Whew!

So, today I begin the new med. I am SO HAPPY to start anew! :) I woke up with a good feeling about today. I have SAMmy's (my mom's Bible study) this morning, so before gathering up my supplies for that and taking my shower, I thought I'd send off a little note into bloggy world.

I have been REALLY good at couponing this past year - I love a good bargain. That's one thing my mom taught me, growing up. I'm one of five kids, so it was a necessity. But, we always had great food and nice things, because she knew the value of a dollar and how to stretch it! I like to think I learned a thing or two from her. :)

I rarely buy chicken anymore, it seems - unless I get a REALLY good deal. At least not lately. Target had frozen turkey breasts for $.99/pound all through December and I picked up a few and froze them. They are so easy to cook in the crock pot, and they're not wasteful, like whole turkeys. (I NEVER purchase whole turkeys, with all those bones and dark meat - ugh! Carving whole turkeys are the pits...and you pay for the bones and most of the meat is on the breast, anyhow.) I have a turkey breast in the crock pot right now...stuffed with an onion and stick of butter with broth over it (which Target also had all month for 59 cents!)

I just made our vacation reservations for this summer. We're camping in Acadia National Park off the coast of Maine. (Lobster boil on the beach anyone?) I had to make them so soon because the campground fills up really quickly and we had to get a campsite for us and our friends had to get one, too. (We usually take our vacations together.)

We have had a very mild winter here in Wisconsin, which has been unusual and very welcome! My thoughts are turning to spring, now. I prefer to live in denial. It's nice here (in denial, that is). Please join me - there's plenty of room. lol Actually, Wisconsin winters last through April...but in denial land, we have skipped over winter this year. :)

So, what are your summer vacation plans? Do you have any resolutions or goals that you're still hanging on to?

I love that we have skipped over winter! I'm in denial of winter, too, and it is truly a lovely place to be!

I can't imagine how difficult it must be to have to work with those various medications. You are continually in my prayers, sweet friend! I'm happy to know that you've found one that seems to be working for you!

Let's get together soon - I truly do miss you!

Love you!

That's too bad they made you stick it out with the other medicine. How ridiculous! Oh well, I'm glad the new stuff is working better!

Resolutions: to try to read "Bible in a Year" every day. Um, yeah, I'm already three days behind...LOL!

Vacation plans...none yet, yours sounds awesome!

I'm loving this mild winter too! If I dont' have to dig out the snow blower at all this year, I'm OK with that! But it sounds like we might get nailed over night tonight or tomorrow night.
Turkey sounds SO good right now! I just did a chicken in the crock pot and just tore it off the bone this morning, saving the broth. It's good to have some cooked meats in the fridge for when son gets the urge for a taco, which is all the time...
