The other night, Mike's buddy asked if we wanted to go with him and his wife on a date night. Yeah! I love going out!
So we went...to a polka festival.
My friend, Jen, wasn't really into it but her husband was a real polka fan, so we went to see what all the fuss was about. No surprise - we were the YOUNGEST fans in the park. :)
Mike isn't really a dancer, so once Jen's husband wore her out, he asked Mike if he minded if I accompanied him out on the dance floor. WHAT???!!!!!
Well, I warned him that I didn't really know what I was doing when it came to polka-ing, but he assured me that it was just one-two-three, one-two-three...and, really, it looked like a lot of bouncing around - and, I was a cheerleader once-upon-a-time and it looked like a basic pom pom drill team three step to me, so off we were -
AND IT WAS A BLAST!
The best part was, I just acted like the biggest dork - I was yelling "YAH - HOO!" and was bouncing really high and letting Ron swing me really fast - and the goofier I acted, the more others encouraged me - THESE WERE MY PEOPLE! I WAS BEING ENCOURAGED TO ACT LIKE A DORK! I WAS FREE TO BE GOOFY AND WILD AND FUN AND BOUNCY AND LOUD...and nobody asked me to shut up or tone it down or knock it off. In fact, a few of the dancers gave me thumbs up and I felt like a rock star.
The most amazing thing was that we didn't take anybody out on that dance floor because we were spinning kind of fast and I was wearing flip-flops. We did, however bump a few couples once or twice. We could have hurt somebody!
The whole night was really cool, because Jen's husband felt great being able to be himself, and Jen got to love on her husband and got help in supporting him in his "polka habit" and Mike and I got to have a fun couples date with some good friends - which was surprisingly fun and interesting. (And Jen and I had some good girlfriend time with some pretty good belly laughs.)
So, in case you didn't know...because I didn't know...inside, deep down, I am a polka queen. :)
And, if Jen is reading this - the little green guy is probably still looking for ya...and he's still yours! Leiderhosen rules!

I laughed so hard when I read this!! I am googling at this moment to see if I can find one of those green outfits for Ron, so cool. :)
At least you can always find your hubby a present... :)
