"THE Bonfire"

So, it was last Thursday night - the evening of the last day of school - some weird things had been happening. The doorbell rings at about 7:30pm - it was Noel, one of Aaron's neighbor buddies. He's holding a pile of his old school papers - I mean A PILE! He asks if Aaron was home, and I tell him that he's at trap shooting league with his dad for the evening. He hands me his pile of papers and asks if I'd give them to Aaron . Uh, sure... (If Aaron is collecting garbage...he is in BIIIIGGGG trouble....)

At about 8:00pm, Bridgette comes in from walking the dog and informs me that she ran into Noel's mom who said something about the boys making plans for a bonfire and not telling the adults about it. (Are the boys lighting fires without us knowing? That doesn't sound like Aaron? Nahhh - he's not out of my sight that often...she must be mistaken...)

At 9:15pm, Bridgette and I are reading books when the doorbell rings. Standing at my door are Aaron's neighbor buddy Jake with his piles of old school papers in his hands and his dad, ready for the big bonfire that apparently the neighborhood has been invited to...at our house. Gulp. That I haven't been informed of. And my son isn't even home for.

Well, we rescheduled for Saturday. Apparently, the boys (and Bridgette) had thougght it was a good idea to save up their old papers and ceremonially burn them in the fire. ("Math Workbook? I HATED Math! In the fire! Ha ha ha ha ha!") It lasted hours. Our neighbors see the fire going, and stop over. Kind of backfired - Aaron's Communications teacher lives next door - ha! She told Aaron that any teachers that find students doing this send them directly to summer school! She was a great sport! And, since I actually KNEW about this one I picked up s'more fixings and pop, so that when our neighbors showed up, we had enough to share with all of them! Our neighbor Jeff brought over his new scooter and got the guys to take it for a ride - even Judge Howard took it for a spin - in fact he was gone so long, we weren't sure he was going to bring it back!!!! :)

Anyone can roast marshmallows! Creative kids roast homework pages!

Bridgette gets ready to throw some of her school workbooks in the fire.

Aaron has perfected the skewering of workbook pages and roasting them to a golden brown before setting them aflame. He has been daydreaming about this process for about the past 6 months during several of his classes. Who knew?
