Hi, bloggy buddies!
Just wanted to type out a quick note. It's what I do when I have a million things that I should be doing...it would feel wrong to actually attack my to-do list without getting sidetracked first by checking in with YOU! ;)
Mike just took off on his 3-hour ride to meet his parents half-way for the "drop off" point. (Sounds like a drug deal, doesn't it?) No, "the goods" aren't drugs...they're our kids. Our kids have been spending the week between Christmas and New Year's and then a week in summer with Mike's parents since we moved from them eleven years ago. Every year. The kids are in high school now. Mike and I figured that it probably is difficult for his parents to find fun things to do with the kids now at their ages and that the kids are probably bored out of their skulls after a week with 70+ year olds. We were going to talk to them and figure out how we could be sneaky and shorten their annual stays with his parents, to make it better for all.
Until our conversation on the phone last night with first his parents, and then the kids, that is.
Mikes Mom: "Bridgette wants to ask you something."
Mike: "I think I know what it is." (He figured she wanted him to stop at her boyfriend's town, which is on the way home today.)
Mike's Mom hands phone to Bridgette.
Bridgette: "Hi, Dad. Can I stay another week?"
Mike was dumbfounded.
He said no, because we figure we'd leave it where everyone still wanted more...it's better that way. But, Mike's Mom told him that she was fine with it and they'd love to have BOTH kids another week! Aaron's been doing fun things with his Grandpa and they've gone to movies and the kids have been spoiled to death, I'm sure!
But...no...like I said...we'd rather take them while the memories are good...and everyone will be looking forward to the week when they get them again at Christmas!
So, Mike's going to get our kids at the half-way point. He'll be back in about 7 hours. I had to stay home because some friends of ours (Gary and Amy) and their kids are flying in from Portland tonight and are spending the evening. (They are our camping friends, remember? The ones we vacation with every year?) I just love, love, love having them over, so I can't wait! They were here a week ago Friday for dinner when they took the train out of Minneapolis but we only got to visit for a few hours...not nearly long enough!
I've got to run to Brueger's Bagel Shop to get bagels and cream cheese and I'll hard boil some eggs (for protein!) and make up some fruit salad for breakfast. Maybe some munchies for tonight? And of course make them look at our vacation photos - a captive (captured?) audience! ;)
I hope you have a wonderful weekend! What are you up to?

Sounds like a fun weekend! We bring the kids to Mark's parents every Sunday...I wonder how long we can do that for?? Hopefully a long time ;) We celebrated Ben's 3rd birthday with family on Saturday. His bday is actually on Monday so we'll have leftover cake again!
